The Buttcracker
For one of my courses, I was tasked with modeling and rendering an original interpretation of a nutcracker, with complete freedom over form and mechanism. I chose to approach the project from a humorous perspective, creating a playful reinterpretation of the traditional nutcracker archetype.
The final design uses an exaggerated, character-driven form paired with a simple mechanical interaction: squeezing the legs activates the cracking mechanism, allowing a walnut to be opened. This project explored expressive form, mechanical storytelling, and how humor can be integrated into functional object design without sacrificing clarity of use.
