Epi-Saber

For my Human Factors course, I was tasked with designing a wearable device centered on the theme of healing. I developed a wearable epinephrine auto-injector concept inspired by the form language of a Star Wars lightsaber, reimagining a critical medical device as an intuitive, discreet, and emotionally reassuring object.

The device is designed to clip onto a belt or waistband and be worn at the user’s side for immediate access. The epinephrine pen is inserted into an internal chamber and locks securely into place. In the event of an allergic reaction, the user pulls an external lever, causing the pen to deploy outward and become instantly ready for use. Upon injection, the device automatically initiates a 911 call, while a red indicator light confirms that emergency services have been contacted.

This project focused on accessibility under stress, one-handed operation, and clear visual feedback, using familiar form cues to reduce hesitation and improve response time in emergency situations.
